Today, we are going to learn the phrase, 'keep up' which means to physically hold or maintain something in an upright position or at a certain level, to prevent someone from sleeping by making noise, to move or progress at the same rate as others, to continue doing something in the way one has been doing it, to stay informed about something or in touch with someone, etc. Let's take a look at example sentences.
1. Example sentences
1) To physically hold or maintain something in an upright position or at a certain level
① Do you think these magnets will be strong enough to keep up the board?

케인이 너무 빨리 걸어서 따라잡기 위해 뛰어야 했어요.

회의가 너무 빨리 진행되어서 통역사가 따라잡을 수가 없었다.
4) To continue doing something in the way one has been doing it
① If you keep this up, you are going to get expelled from school.
너 계속 이러다가는 퇴학당한다.
② I can't continue working these long hours. If I keep it up, I'll get burnt out.
나는 계속해서 이렇게 긴 시간 동안 일을 할 수 없다. 계속하다가는 녹초가 될 것 같아요.
5) To stay informed about something or in touch with someone
① You have to keep up with the news about vaccins, because of the side effects.
부작용 때문에 백신에 대한 뉴스에 계속 귀 기울여 야만 합니다.
