Today, we are going to learn the phrase, 'hold up' which means to raise something or someone in the air, to support something or somene in an upright position, to maintain or adhere to somepart of an arrangement or agreement, to obstruct or delay something or someone, to rob someone or some place while armed , often gunpoint, etc. Let's take a look at example sentences.

1) To raise something or someone in the air
① I held my daughter up over my head.
나의 딸을 내 머리 위로 치켜들었다.
② A group of students held up the banner written 'No More Bullying'.

2) To support something or somene in an upright position

3) To maintain or adhere to somepart of an arrangement or agreement

우리는 캠페인의 목적을 고수하려고 노력한다.

4) To obstruct or delay something or someone
① The conference was held up by tomorrow.
회의는 내일로 연기되었다.
② Sorry to be slow. Am I holding people up.
느려서 죄송합니다. 제가 사람들을 지연시키고 있나요?

5) To rob someone or some place while armed , often gunpoint
① The armed robbers held the bank up.
무장 강도들이 은행을 털었습니다.
② The teenagers held up the convenience store.
